Report reaching us that the National Assembly has summoned the United States Ambassador and all the concerned stake holders to Nigeria.
Mr Stuart Symington, the US Ambassador to Nigeria has been invited over for the alleged high rate of visa denial of Nigerians.
According to our sources
"The invitation was said to be at the instance of an activist, Kayode Bello, who petitioned the House over the matter" .
He has this to say
"Some of the fees were application fees, evaluation fees, courier fees, service fees, visa fees, school fees. These fees were said to be non-refundable" .
Some of the students had this to say.....
"We were denied visas because we were not married" ,w
"We were denied because only one of our parents was sponsor" .
A parent also has this to say.....
"my daughter's interview was cut short because she asked the interviewer to speak up" .
A former ambassador to the US, John Campbell had this to say
"visas are given by consular officers on a case by case basis" ,
"the refusal of many people to return home after finishing their programmes made the process difficult as well"
However, the summon, titled, "Indiscriminate denial of United States of America visa and illegal increment of exchange rate of visa fee by the American embassy' was signed by the House Committee Chairman on Public Petitions, Uzo Azubuike" .
The House has asked the ambassador to forward twenty copies of his defence in accordance to this....
The summon has how ever yielded into a futile effort as the US embassy rejected the summon by the National Assembly.
